Rv Trip to New Orleans-Mardi Gras 2013

Saturday, February 9, 2013

Left the camp at 9:00 and headed to Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World to visit the float den of one of the largest float builders. This is the place where they build the floats for Mardi Gras Parades and also Props from different Corporations such as Chick-Fil-A, Football, and other large commercial corporations for their advertising purposes. It is a huge warehouse. Some of Disney's Props are made here like the one they use in Disney world.

After Blaine Kern we went to Presbytere Museum. This museum houses the State of Louisiana Mardi Gras Museum. It exhibits how the Mardi Gras started and had their past Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras, costumes and all. It is at this museum where they have bottles hanging on the ceiling and the number represents the death toll during hurricane Katrina. They also have Fat Domino's piano that was damaged by the hurricane. They also have exhibits of children's art and essay about how they felt about the devastation of Katrina. Very moving essays from kids.

After the museum tour we were picked up at 2:00 pm again at the US mint for home. Rested and prepared ourselves again for another parade night. This is our 3rd day of parade. At 5:30 they picked us up again and took us to our reserved seatings at St. Charles Ave bleachers. The parade tonight is tht Krewe of Endymion parade and is the ultimate of all super Krewe parades. More beads collected. This particular parade is founded by a small group of business men in the mid city of New Orleans. The parade finished at 9:30 but we didn't get home till almost 11:30. We got stucked on traffic for a long time.
