RV Trip to New Orleans-Mardi Gras 2013

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Today the motor coach tour bus picked us up at 8:00 am and began our day with a tour of the city of New Orleans. They took us to where the Levee broke, the houses and areas that were devastated by hurricane Katrina. They took us on a tour of their cemetery which are all above ground. New Orleans is 6-8 feet below sea level.
After the tour we had a jazz brunch at the Court of Two Sisters Restaurant. One of the best restaurant in New Orleans..After brunch we were on our own until 2:00 pm. We walked about at the French Quarter and to the Jackson Square. The square where everybody hang around and it's also where St. Louis Cathedral is located. Stopped and went inside of the Cathedral. Gone shopping for T-shirts at the French Quarter. We were picked up at the US Mint by our bus at 2:00 pm.
At 6:45 pm we were picked up by bus again to watch our 1st Mardi Gras Parade. We were dropped at the reserved parade sections on St. Charles Ave. There were 2 parades to watch on the 1st night. The weather wasn't cooperative. It started to rain even before it started. The parade went on rain or shine no cancellation. Felt sorry for the bands that were marching, they were soaked and wet and cold.
Inspite of the rain beads were thrown all over the place. We were having so much fun catching those beads and went home with 2 bags of all kinds of beads.

After the 2nd parade we went back home to our coaches. It rained all night with lightning and thunder.
