Challis Hot Springs RV Park

Sunday- August 8, 2010
We decided we stay at the camp after church. We went to church at Challis, this morning. Tried to do some fishing at the river, no fish. It's good thing 'coz you can't keep the fish that you would catch. It's catch and release only.In the evening we all went to the hot pool .

Salmon,Idaho

Saturday-August 7, 2010Today we went to the town of Salmon. A lot of history here. Enjoyed the museum. The monument of Sacajawea, the indian lady who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their expedition is in this town. The Lewis and Clark Back Coutry Byway and Adventure Road is located in this county,Lemhi County.

Carlye wanted to go to Salmon Cemetery to look for the grave of Jesse McCaleb. He was the only soldier who was killed by the American Indians in the town of Mackay, Idaho. There's a mountain in Mackay named after Jesse McCaleb. Carlye found the grave of Jesse McCaleb and his family.
The trip to Salmon was a good one. Enjoyed it. Learning a lot of Idaho history.
The only thing about this trip that wasn't good was Earl lost his necklace. No big deal it can be replaced.

Bayshore,Bonanza and Custer Ghost Towns

Having difficulty getting an internet since August 6. Today is the only day that I have good internet connection. To all my blog followers I'll just summarize our trip from August 6 till today Sunday, August 22, 2010.
Friday-August 6, 2010
Kenneth, Carlye,Earl and I went to see some ghost towns while we were in Challis,Idaho. We went to Bonanza, Bayshore and Custer Ghost towns. Very interesting towns. They used to be mining towns. Earl's dad used to work in a mine at Bayshore. His family used to live here too. It brought back a lot of memories for Kenneth and Earl.
We went on a loop to see these ghost towns and we also got to see where Earl's grandfather worked when they were building roads. We've got to see some old cabins and some unidentified graves in these old towns.

Friday-August 6, 2010
Earl and Ken woke up early and visited. Earl cooked breakfast. We had pancakes,bacon and eggs. Earl love to cook breakfast whenever we are on a campout. No complaints from me, he can cook anytime. After breakfast we went to see some ghost towns. In fact we went to 3 ghost towns- Bonanza,Bayshore and Custer.
Earl's dad used to work as a miner in the town of Bayshore and they lived here for a short time while their dad was stationed to work here.

Challis,Idaho Day #3

Thursday-August 5, 2010
Our 3rd day here at Challis Hot Springs RV Resort. Earl up early again for his walk while Connie slept in. This is what a retiree does, sleep in and then start your day with coffee and brunch. Just stayed and read our books and magazines while waiting for Kenneth and Carlye.( Earl's brother and sister in law)
Kenneth and Carlye arrived around 11:30 and they were met by thunder and lightning and rain. I think they brought the rain from Oregon where they came from. Almost all afternoon heavy rains. I love rain especially when you're camping. After the rain all 4 of us went to the hot pool and soaked there for 15 minutes. We didn't go to the swimming pool 'coz of the thunder and lightning. Afraid to be electrocuted. Had spaghetti for dinner prepared by Carlye. Easy to cook.

Challis,Idaho Day # 2

Wednesday-August 4, 2010
Earl woke up at 6am and went for his walk. Connie slept till 8am. We both had cereal for breakfast.After breakfast he stayed out and socialized with other seniors in the park. Connie stayed inside the coach and started to declutter some of the cabinets in the bedroom. Found and threw away some outdated medications and some outdated lotions and make-up stuff. Organized my jewelry boxes.
At 11am we decided to go to Challis city center. Stopped at the Forest Service office and bought a lifetime pass for all the National Parks. Being a senior it only cost us $10. One of the advantages of being a senior citizen- discounts here and there. From there we toured the little town of Challis.It has a population of 905.
Earl has a lot of memories in this town. His grandfather worked for the Forest Service and built roads and bridges here.
We had lunch at the Y Inn Cafe. Same place where Earl used to eat when he was staying here almost 47 years ago.The food was good,homemade cooking. Then we headed back to the RV Park. Read my book and Earl read his camping magazines.Went to watch the river. Some kids were in it on their inner tubes with 2 adults guiding them. It looks like fun. Late in the evening we went to the hot springs again and stayed there for an hour. Very relaxing. Earl cooked turkey taco for dinner. Good,good, good.

Challis,Idaho Day # 1

Tuesday- August 3, 2010
Left Jackpot at 7:00 am for Challis,Idaho. We arrived in Challis at 11:30. Stayed at Challis Hot Springs RV Park. It's located 4 and a half miles from the main highway.The park has hot mineral spring therapeutic pool and also hot spring swimming pool.
Earl detached our tow car before we parked the RV.After Earl hooked up the utilities to the RV we both rested and chatted with the neighbors. Had lunch and read my book. After a while we went to the hot mineral pool and soaked there for 15 minutes. Very relaxing. From there we went to the hot spring swimming pool. Stayed there for almost an hour. Had dinner and after dinner we went for a walk by Salmon River and around the park. Bugs and mosquitoes started to come around and started biting so we decided to stay inside the coach. The satellite is not working so no TV just listened to some good music oldies but goodies. Checked my e-mails,facebook and updated my blog. After blogging played solitaire. Earl just relaxing listening to music. 9pm is bedtime for Earl. Connie still reading her book Went to bed at 11:30pm.
