Mount Rushmore-Day 9
Tuesday, May 17, 2011-Day 9
It was so windy all night long and woke up several times with the sound of the whirling wind. It felt like we were in Fontana, Ca.
It was still windy when I got up at 9:00. Earl woke up at 6:00 and went for a walk at the campground. It's a huge KOA.
Had breakfast at the Ponderosa Restaurant and after breakfast went to Mount Rushmore Memorial. It was sunny when we left the camp and got cloudy as soon as we got to the Rushmore monument. It was cold and cloudy but enjoyed the sight of Mount Rushmore. It was awesome. Went to their gift shop and exhibit hall. Watched the movie on how the monument was sculptured by Borglum and how it came about. Very interesting.
After Mount Rushmore we went to the city of Keystone and watch some people panned gold. From gold panning we went east to the Rushmore Cave. Journeyed through the cave on an exciting walking tour. It was beautiful and amazing carvings formed by nature inside that cave. It took us an hour to go through the 3000 ft. cave. If you're claustrophobic you might not want to go through it. After the cave tour went back to our camp and fixed dinner. Had pork chop, fried potatoes and cream of mushroom soup.
Started to rain and rained lightly all evening. Watch TV the rest of the night.
